Richard L. Resurreccion Public Safety Scholarship

       The Richard L. Resurreccion Public Safety Scholarship recognizes Phi Theta Kappa members who demonstrate potential for or involvement in public safety or service while enrolled in a regionally accredited associate degree public safety program. The scholarship awards a $1,000 scholarship annually.

       Members may begin applying for this scholarship in March and applications are due in May each year. The scholarship selection shall be made by the International Public Safety Leadership and Ethics Institute (IPSLEI). Students selected as Resurreccion Public Safety Scholars are notified in August/September each year.

       The International Public Safety Leadership and Ethics Institute has partnered with Phi Theta-     Kappa to establish an endowment for the Richard L. Resurreccion Public Safety Scholarship. This scholarship honors Richard L. Resurrecion, a member of the Board of Directors of the International Public Safety Leadership and Ethics Institute who is widely known for his expertise in the areas of life safety, technology and emergency management.

Criteria for this scholarship are:

  • Member of Phi Theta Kappa is preferred 

  • Minimum 3.50 GPA on all course work/no courses marked incomplete at the time of application

  • Part-time, full-time, and international students are eligible to apply

  • A citizen, or having permanent or temporary residence in the country where the two-year college is located or a visa considered appropriate by the college

  • Completed by June of each year, at least 50% of coursework in an associate degree public safety program (e.g. Criminal Justice, Fire Science, Fire Technology, Emergency Medical Services, Public Safety Administration, Emergency Management, Homeland Security) at a regionally accredited two-year college

  • Preference given to those who have taken or are taking at least one IPSLEI program course

  • Students with previous associate, bachelor’s or master’s degrees are eligible to apply

  • Pre-major students and certificate students are ineligible to apply

  • The director of the program in which the applicant is enrolled must complete the Institutional Certification Form by the application deadline

  • The applicant’s academic record must be free from suspension, probation or other disciplinary action

  • The applicant’s record must be either free from any criminal conduct or if the applicant is a convicted felon, he or she must have completed all conditions of sentencing, including probation.

About Professor Richard L.Resurreccion
 

        Professor Richard L. Resurreccion is widely known for his expertise in the areas of life safety, technology and emergency management. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the International Public Safety Leadership and Ethics Institute (IPSLEI). Professor Resurreccion has been honored by a number of cities, public safety agencies and civic organizations for his work in emergency services training. He has been particularly involved in training and development programs for fire, police and emergency medical services personnel. Professor Emeritus of the College of Health and Human Services at California State University, Long Beach, Dr. Resurreccion has 50 years of experience in varied teaching at the secondary, junior and two-year college, military and university levels.
